AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College men's volleyball team has earned its first-ever postseason berth after posting an 8-6 record against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents, the league office announced Sunday evening. The Express earned the tournament's third seed and will play the second-seeded Spartans from D'Youville College next Saturday, Apr. 11 on the campus of Medaille College at 2 p.m.

The winner of the 2 p.m. game between No. 2 D'Youville and No. 3 Wells will play the winner of the noontime game between No. 1 Medaille and No. 4 SUNY Poly the very next day, Sunday, Apr. 12, at 1 p.m.

In only their fourth season as a varsity program, Wells has dramatically improved its performance against NEAC opponents in three-straight years, winning two league games in 2013 before narrowly missing the playoffs in 2013 with a 5-3 record. Despite SUNY Poly and Keuka boasting similar 8-6 conference records, Wells and SUNY Poly advanced to the playoffs as Keuka posted a 1-3 record against both teams.

As a team, Wells ranks at or near the top of several statistical categories within the conference. With 1,077 digs and 232 total blocks, Wells ranks first amongst the eight NEAC men's volleyball programs. The team also ranks second with 1,027 total kills and 968 total assists.

Individually, freshman Jack Battumur (Denver, Colo.) ranks second in the NEAC with 309 digs while senior Paul Hernon (New Hartford, N.Y.) and sophomore Alex Battey (Palmdale, Calif.) with 103 and 86 total blocks, respectively. Battey's .242 attacking percentage is also sixth amongst NEAC competition.

Wells concludes their regular season this Saturday, Apr. 4 as they host New Jersey City and Penn St.-Behrend at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, at the Farenthold Athletic Wing.
