Farruggia Nets NEAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior John Farruggia (New Hartford, N.Y.) of the Wells College men's volleyball team has earned North Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Player of the Week after a dominant weekend for the Express, the league office announced Tuesday. He has earned weekly honors from the NEAC on four occasions in his career, leading all student-athletes in team history.

Across three conference matches this past weekend, Farruggia posted 38 kills and committed only three attacking errors for the Express. Hitting a combined .486 through the three matches, Farruggia also boasted a perfect reception percentage (zero errors in 46 total attempts) and set the program record for single-match hitting percentage.

That record fell against Wilson, where he recorded 15 kills on 24 errorless attacks for a .625 hitting percentage against the Phoenix in a straight-set victory. The very next match against Lancaster Bible, he hit a collective .565 via 14 kills on 23 swings with one error – that total would have been the program record heading into the weekend. He rounded out the weekend with nine kills against Penn St.-Altoona.

His team's lone captain in 2016, Farruggia is a four-year member of the men's volleyball team and currently leads all players in program history in kills (674), attack attempts (2,007), service aces (114), digs (566), sets played (311) and service attempts (1,156) while also throwing up 94 block assists (second all-time) alongside 0.37 service aces per set (0.37).

A two-time team captain, Farruggia earned First Team All-Conference as a sophomore and was recognized with his team's Rookie of the Year award in 2013. His 0.6 service aces per set in 2014 was the third-most by any student-athlete in NCAA Division III.
