Men's Volleyball Sweeps Keuka In Home-Opener Match

The Wells College men's volleyball team played its first home match of the 2017 season and swept visiting Keuka in three sets. Set scores in the North Eastern Athletic Conference victory were 25-19, 26-24, 25-19. Wells is 6-9 overall and 3-2 in the NEAC. Keuka fell to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Wells used a .478 hitting percentage to highlight the opening-set victory. The set was tied seven times in the early going before Wells pulled away and took a five-point lead at 17-12. The Express stretched the lead to six points later on and closed out the opening set.

The Express trailed for the majority of the second set, but rallied in the latter stages to earn a comeback win 26-24 in the set. Wells found itself behind 21-16, but turned things around. Ryan Turner had a kill and Jonathan Haines and Caden O'Loughlin teamed up for a block as part of a three-point run. Wells stayed within striking distance and fought off a set point and then tied the set on back-to-back kills from Brannon Perdicho. The decisive points of the set came on a kill by Ryan Turner and a hitting error by Keuka.

Wells trailed 7-5 in the third set, but went on a 9-3 run to take a 14-10 lead and never trailed again. Keuka came back to tie the set 19-19, but Wells won the last six points of the set on a run that included three kills from Perdicho.

In the match, Perdicho led Wells with 15 kills and two service aces. Caden O'Loughlin had 11 kills with just one error and a .500 hitting percentage. O'Loughlin added a team-best nine digs. Josh Undari had 22 assists and Scott Litvin had 14.  

Wells returns to action with another home match, Wednesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. against the Sage Colleges at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
