Men's Volleyball Sets Win Record, Clinches Playoff Spot

The Wells College men's volleyball team wrapped up the NEAC portion of the regular-season schedule with a  four-set win over Medaille College on Sunday, April 2 at a conference crossover weekend hosted by D'Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. Set scores were 25-12, 23-25, 25-18, 27-25. With the victory, Wells finished NEAC play with an 11-5 conference record and clinched a spot in the conference championship tournament. Medaille finished 10-6 in conference play and ended in fifth place.

The NEAC playoffs will be hosted by Penn State Altoona on April 14 and 15. Prior to the playoffs, Wells has one regular-season match remaining, an April 8 home date at 4 p.m. against Bard.

Wells hit .308 in the first set and ran away with a 25-12 win. The Express went on a 10-1 run in the middle part of the set to build a 17-7 lead.

Medaille answered back and took the second set by winning five of the last seven points of the set.

In the third set, Wells took a 5-1 lead and eventually built its largest lead of the set with a 19-11 advantage, and the Express cruised to a 25-18 win.

Wells closed out the match in the fourth set. Wells led for the opening portion of the set, but Medaille came back to lead 17-15. Wells won seven of the next nine points to go ahead 22-19. Medaille scored three in a row to tie it 22-22. The teams exchanged points and Medaille had set point with a 25-24 lead. Wells scored the final three points of the set on a Medaille service error and two kills from Brannon Perdicho.

In the match, Perdicho led wells with 22 kills and he hit .390 for the match. Caden O'Loughlin had 14 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. The Express served 11 aces in the match, with four of those coming from Scott Litvin and two each from Josh Undari, O'Loughlin, and Perdicho.

Jonathan Haines had two solo blocks and three block assists. Perdicho and Mike Hartman each had 10 digs. Josh Undari had 25 assists and Scott Litvin had 20.

Wells has a 17-12 overall record and has set a program record for victories in a season. In the prior five years of varsity competition, the 2014 campaign total of 16 wins was the highest win total. This is the second time that Wells has earned a spot in the NEAC playoffs. The 2015 team went to the playoffs after compiling an 8-6 conference mark.
