Wells Men's Volleyball Finishes As NEAC Runner-Up

The Wells College men's volleyball team wrapped up its best season in program history when the Express fell to Penn State Altoona in four sets in the 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference championship match Saturday, April 15 at Altoona, Pa. Penn State Altoona, won by set scores of 25-18, 25-13, 16-25, 25-23.

The tournament's top seed and host institution, Penn State Altoona, took the first two sets in convincing fashion. Wells fought back in the third set and claimed a 25-16 win in the set. Wells hit .296 in the third set with 12 kills. The set was tied 13-13 before Wells won seven of the next eight points to lead 20-14.

Wells trailed 24-21 in the fourth set and fought off two set points before Altoona closed the set with a long rally and won 25-23.

Caden O'Loughlin led Wells with 14 kills and Brannon Perdicho had 13 kills. Josh Undari had 23 assists and eight digs. O'Loughlin served four aces. Scott Litvin had 15 digs and Mike Hartman had 11 digs.

The Express finished the year with a 19-13 overall record. With 19 victories, Wells set a program record for most wins in a season. Five of the 13 defeats came against teams that are currently nationally-ranked or were ranked when they faced the Express. Friday's semifinal victory over Lancaster Bible College was another milestone, as Wells won a postseason match for the first time in program history.

Penn State Altoona is 26-6 on the year and earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championships. The tournament field will be announced Monday, April 17 at 10 a.m.
