Saturday Split For Men's Volleyball

The Wells College men's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday, Jan. 20 at the SUNY Poly Invitational in Utica, N.Y. The Express defeated Johnson & Wales University in five sets and fell to Elms College in four sets. Wells has a 2-2 overall record after the opening weekend of the 2018 season.

Wells will compete Friday, Jan. 26 against Cairn and then take on Thiel and host Elmira College on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Elmira College Invitational.

Wells 3, Johnson & Wales 2

The Express started Saturday's play with a five-set victory that included extra points in the decisive set. Set scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 20-25, 18-16.

Three players reached double-figures in kills over the five-set match, led by 15 kills from Brannon Perdicho and 14 from Robert Patzer. Caden O'Loughlin added 11 kills. Patzer served two aces.

Setters Josh Undari (29 assists) and Scott Litvin (22 assists) helped keep the offense moving as Wells had 59 kills against 32 errors for a .172 hitting percentage in the match.

Kevin Batmunkh and Perdicho had 11 digs each. Patzer had two solo blocks and three block assists. Ryan Turner had one solo block and two block assists.

Elms 3, Wells 1

Wells won the second set in a four-set match against Elms. Set scores were 25-13, 16-25, 25-18, 25-23.

The Express hit .333 in the second set with 13 kills against three errors.

Brannon Perdicho had 15 kills and Caden O'Loughlin and Jonathan Haines had eight kills each. Josh Undari had 24 assists and served two aces. Scott Litvin added 13 assists and seven digs.

Ryan Turner, O'Loughlin, and Haines each had three block assists. Kevin Batmunkh led Wells with 12 digs.
