Straight-Sets Win For Men's Volleyball

The Wells College men's volleyball team maintained its hold on second place in the North Eastern Athletic Conference with a three-set win over visiting Wilson College on Friday, April 6 at the Schwartz Center. Set scores were 25-20, 25-12, 25-17. The Express is 18-7 overall and 6-1 in the NEAC. Wilson is 6-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

Wells hit .398 for the match with 43 kills and 10 errors on 83 attempts.

The Express trailed 8-6 in the early part of the opening set, but went on a 13-6 run to take a 19-14 lead en route to the opening-set win.

Wells cruised to a win in the second set. The Express built leads of 7-1 and 20-6 before closing it out 25-12.

In the third set, Wells used a 6-1 run that included three kills by Scott Litvin to take a 19-13 lead. The Express led the rest of the way and took the set 25-17.

Caden O'Loughlin led Wells with 12 kills and he hit .476 for the match. Brannon Perdicho and Robert Patzer had eight kills each. Litvin had 19 assists and Josh Undari had 17 assists. O'Loughlin served five aces. Perdicho had nine digs and O'Loughlin and Patzer had seven digs each.

Headed into Saturday's action, the final day of the regular season, Wells holds a one-game lead in the standings over Penn State Altoona and SUNY Poly. A victory by Wells over Penn State Altoona would clinch second place and a first-round bye in the NEAC playoffs.

Wells takes on Altoona at noon Saturday and then faces Bard at 4 p.m. The Wells seniors will be honored prior to the start of the 4 p.m. match.
