The Wells College men's volleyball team won its final two matches of the regular season, with a four-set NEAC win over Penn State Altoona and a three-set non-conference win over Bard College on Saturday, April 7 at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
The Express established a single-season wins record with its 20th win of the season. Wells has a 20-7 record and finished with a 7-1 mark in the NEAC. Wells clinched second place in the NEAC standings and earned a bye through to the semifinals of the NEAC championship tournament. That will be hosted Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15 at Lancaster Bible College.
Wells honored seniors Mike Hartman, Scott Litvin and Brannon Perdicho prior to the second match. That group has helped Wells increase its win total in each of the last four years.
Wells 3, Penn State Altoona 1
The Express dropped the opening set but rallied to take the match in four. Set scores were 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16.
Wells took control of the second set with an 8-3 run to stretch its lead to 23-16. Brannon Perdicho had three kills in that stretch.
The third set was tied 15-15 before an 8-2 run for the Express broke open a tied set and gave Wells a 23-17 advantage. Perdicho had three kills and Josh Undari had a solo block in that stretch.
Wells closed out the match in the fourth set. Caden O'Loughlin served seven straight points for Wells including two service aces as Wells took a 20-11 lead en route to a 25-16 victory.
Brannon Perdicho had 24 kills for the Express and Robert Patzer added 17. Josh Undari had 54 assists.
Wells hit .316 in the match. O'Loughlin had 11 digs and Perdicho had 10. Ryan Turner had one solo block and five block assists.
Wells 3, Bard 0
Set scores were 25-12, 25-8, 25-19 for the Express. Wells hit .579 in the first set and .429 for the match with 35 kills and five errors in 70 attempts.
Perdicho had 10 kills. Josh Undari had seven and Mike Hartman had six. Scott Litvin had 17 assists. Earlier this weekend, Litvin reached 2,000 career assists over his four years at Wells. He is the program's all-time leader in assists. Litvin served five aces in the match.
O'Loughlin led Wells with 10 digs. Hartman had four digs, one solo block and two block assists.
