Men's Volleyball Set For 2019 Season

The Wells College men's volleyball team begins its 2019 season this weekend at the Cardinal Classic hosted by St. John Fisher College. Wells will be competing in its eighth season of varsity competition in men's volleyball during the 2019 season, under first-year head coach Jim Nichols.

In the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll, Wells was picked second among six teams. Defending conference champion Lancaster Bible College was picked first. SUNY Poly was third, followed by Keuka, Wilson, and College of Saint Elizabeth.

Wells returns four starters from last year's team, including three all-conference honorees. Junior Caden O'Loughlin was voted to the NEAC First Team last year as a sophomore, his second-straight all-conference nod. Sophomore Robert Patzer was the NEAC Rookie of the Year in 2018 and was voted to the all-conference third team. Junior Josh Undari was also picked to the NEAC Third Team.

That trio helped lead Wells to a 21-8 overall record which set program benchmarks in total wins and winning percentage. Wells advanced to the NEAC championship match for the second year in a row and finished as conference runner-up to Lancaster Bible College.

The opening-weekend tournament will include significant competition as Friday's opening match is against Endicott College, which received votes in the 2019 preseason poll by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
