The Wells College men's volleyball team won two matches Sunday, March 17 at home, both in straight sets, over Wilson College and Penn State Behrend. The Express improved to 18-7 overall and 3-2 in the North Eastern Conference with the victories. Wells continues conference play with a Saturday, March 23 game at Lancaster Bible College and Sunday, March 24 match at Wilson College.
WELLS 3, WILSON 0
In a NEAC matchup, Wells won by set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-12. The Express hit .384 in the match with 39 kills and 11 errors in 73 attacks. Wells served nine aces and eight total team blocks.
Cooper Colesante had 16 assists, four kills, 10 digs, and two block assists.
Caden O'Loughlin had nine kills, two assists, four digs, two solo blocks and one block assist. Josh Undari had 12 assists. Robert Patzer had eight kills and three digs. Justin Williams had six kills and two block assists.
WELLS 3, PENN STATE BEHREND 0
Wells played one of its best matches of the season and won by set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-21. Wells hit .245 in the match including .464 in the first set. Robert Patzer had 15 kills and hit .276 in the match. Caden O'Loughlin had nine kills, Joe Zimmerman had eight kills, and Justin Williams had six kills.
Josh Undari had 37 assists and a team-best nine digs. Patzer had eight digs. O'Loughlin served three aces.
Wells took control of the first set with a 7-1 run that gave the Express a 19-14 lead. The run included two kills each from Zimmerman and Patzer and another from O'Loughlin. Back-to-back kills from Justin Williams gave the opening set to the Express.
The second set was tied 12 times as the teams went back-and-forth. Wells built a 21-18 lead, but Behrend scored three in a row to tie it at 21-21. Wells got a kill from Ryan Turner and a Behrend error to go up by two. After a kill for the Lions, a service error gave the Express match point, and Williams had a kill to wrap it up.
Wells trailed 8-4 early in the third set before coming back. The last lead for Penn State Behrend was at 15-14. The Express scored six of the next seven points and led 20-16. Behrend was within 21-20, but kills from Josh Undari and Cooper Colesante put Wells ahead 23-20. A kill from Patzer and hitting error from Behrend ended the match.
