Men's Volleyball Beats Fisher; Win Streak At Five

The Wells College men's volleyball team ran its winning streak to five matches with a four-set win over St. John Fisher on Tuesday, April 2. The Express won by set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 28-26, 25-23.

Wells is 16-3 in its last 19 matches and all three losses have come against nationally-ranked opponents. The Express are 23-8 overall and St. John Fisher is 20-10. Fisher won an earlier meeting this season against Wells in three sets, but the Express took the rematch on its home court Tuesday night.

After splitting the first two sets, Wells took control in the third. St. John Fisher had a 16-14 lead when Wells called a timeout. The Express went on an 8-4 run to take the lead at 22-20. Wells had set points at 24-23, 25-24, and 26-25 but St. John Fisher tied it on each occasion. A kill from Joe Zimmerman and a hitting error from Fisher allowed Wells to take the third set 28-26.

In the fourth set, Wells jumped out to a 9-4 lead. St. John Fisher rallied to tie the score 19-19 and 22-22 but never took over the lead. Wells won three of the final four points on kills from Caden O'Loughlin and Joe Zimmerman, and a hitting error from Fisher.

Wells hit .228 with 57 kills and 26 errors. St. John Fisher hit .197 with 50 kills and 25 errors. O'Loughlin had 18 kills and Zimmerman had 15 kills for Wells. Robert Patzer had 10 kills, one solo block and two block assists. Josh Undari had 13 digs and 47 assists with one service ace and two block assists.

The Express closes out the regular season with NEAC matches Friday and Saturday. On Friday night, Wells will honor its seniors prior to a 7 p.m. home match against College of St. Elizabeth. On Saturday at 2 p.m. Wells hosts SUNY Poly.
