Men's Volleyball Set For NCAA Debut On Friday Night

The Wells College men's volleyball team will compete in the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament beginning Friday, April 19 against Southern Virginia University in a regional hosted by Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. In the opening round, Wells takes on Southern Virginia in a 6 p.m. match. The winner of Friday's match advances to face host Stevens on Saturday at 6 p.m. Both matches will be held at Canavan Arena at Stevens Institute of Technology.

Ticket Prices: Adults $6, students $4, senior citizens $4, children 12 and under are free. All tickets will be available at Canavan Arena.

ABOUT WELLS: The Express are in the midst of a record-setting season. With 27 wins, Wells has established a single-season record in victories. Wells received votes in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Men's Poll, the first time that the Express have been mentioned in the national ranking since the week of Jan. 23, 2018 following a win over then fourth-ranked Vassar College. Wells is making its first NCAA Tournament appearance and qualified by winning the championship of the North Eastern Athletic Conference in five sets over Lancaster Bible College.

Wells has competed against nationally-ranked opponents throughout the season. The Express has wins over Lancaster Bible College and Rivier University, and Wells took No. 1 ranked Springfield to the deciding set before falling 15-13 in the fifth.

ABOUT SOUTHERN VIRGINIA: The Knights of Southern Virginia University are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance. They earned qualification by winning the championship of the Continental Volleyball Conference in five sets over Juniata College. Southern Virginia is located in Buena Vista, Virginia with an approximate enrollment of 1,000 students. SVU became full members of NCAA Division III beginning in 2016 and has been a member of the Capital Athletic Conference since that time.

ABOUT STEVENS: The Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology are making their seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Stevens earned an at-large berth into the tournament and first-round bye based on a 27-5 overall record including a 9-4 record against nationally-ranked opponents. The Ducks compete in the United Volleyball Conference and lost the championship match of the UVC tournament to ninth-ranked New Paltz in four sets. Stevens is located in Hoboken, N.J. with an approximate enrollment of 3,500 undergraduate and an additional 3,500 graduate students.

The Ducks are ranked third in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Men's Poll with a 27-5 overall record.
