Senior Spotlight: Kevin Batmunkh

With the cancellation of the remainder of the spring season and the winter championships, at least one Wells College senior spring student-athlete will be highlighted each weekend. Today's featured student-athlete is senior Kevin Batmunkh from the men's volleyball team.

Kevin is an international studies major from Torrance, Calif., and primarily played libero for the Express.

Wells head men's volleyball coach Jim Nichols had the following to say about Kevin, "He is one of the most versatile players we have ever have had. Kevin was our starting libero in 2020, but also filled in the middle and outside positions when needed. Kevin's a great defensive player and an incredibly intense competitor. He was just starting to put together a string of great defensive games before the season was unfortunately cut short. Kevin, will be hard to replace."

Over his career at Wells, Kevin appeared in 71 matches and started 198 sets. He finished with 357 digs, while adding 54 points, 40 kills, 24 assists, 10 service aces and seven blocks.

During the shortened 2020 season, Kevin appeared in 17 matches and started 55 sets and finished with 107 digs, while adding a dozen points, 10 kills, 10 assists and a pair of service aces.

In addition, Kevin spent time aiding the athletics department during events over the years.

Why did you choose Wells College?

Professor Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo, head of the international studies department, is a world-renowned professor and I wanted to learn from one of the best. That's what I have been saying in law school interviews, but in reality, Jon Haines and Ryan Turner tricked me into believing that every weekend was like odd/even during my recruitment visit. Oh boy, it was not.

What is your favorite memory at Wells College as a student-athlete?

All of the times that I spent on and off the court with the boys throughout my collegiate career.

What are your plans after Wells College?

I am currently taking online surveys to earn enough capital to purchase Shurfine later in my career.

What advice would you give to the next person wearing your number?

If it is possible, I would like to ask the athletic department to retire my No. 10.

If you had a favorite class during your time at Wells College, what was it and why was it your favorite?

'Physical Education: 420 Wells Men's Volleyball' was pretty cool. However, it has been kind of difficult to finish out the assignments and earn the proper grade via online school.

What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Wells College?

I will miss my brothers, coaches and Sharkey's.
