Middlebrook, Theriault Lead Women’s Cross Country At CCOC

GENEVA, N.Y. – Junior Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) and freshman Deaven Theriault (Ludlow, Mass.) placed sixth and eighth, respectively, to lead the Wells College women's cross country team at the Cross Country Only Championships Saturday morning at Seneca Lake State Park. Out of 13 teams, Wells placed sixth overall amongst the field. The Wells College men's cross country placed 14th against the field.

Middlebrook and Theriault became the first-ever tandem of Wells runners to finish within the top 10 in the same race. Hartwick College and SUNY-ESF are the only two other colleges competing in the meet that had two representatives in the top 10.

For the 22nd straight race, Middlebrook led all Express runners with a time of 20:30.4, running at a 6:36/mile pace. Theriault finished just under a second behind her teammate, completing the course in 20:31.1 while running at a 6:37/mile clip. Sophomore Katie Lamanna (Constableville, N.Y.) placed 28th out of 137 individuals, finishing in 21:29.7.

Junior Anastasia Benson (Rockford, Ill.) ran at a 7:21/mile pace, finishing at 22:49.9 while freshman Jenn VanWormer (Phoenix, N.Y.) was 99th overall at 24:57.3. Classmate Bailey Brown (Marcy, N.Y.) placed 115th with a time of 26:00.6 while Macy Smolsky (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) and Paige Fralick (Mexico, N.Y.) finished up at 31:22.3 and 31:23.9, respectively.

In the men's race, junior Paul Hernon (New Hartford, N.Y.) ran at a 6:15/mile pace (31:03.8) while freshman Ky'aire Reed (Trenton, N.J.) completed the course in 35:53.2. Junior Andrew Judson (Court Gambrillis, Md.) was third for Wells, posting a time of 37:00.2 to finish 125th against the field of 141. Freshman Andrew Zellers (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) ran at a 8:07/mile pace to finish with a time of 40:18.5. Sophomore Raymond Soriano (Laredo, Texas) completed the course with a time of 45:09.9.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Nov. 2 as they compete in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships on the campus of SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, N.Y.
