Season In Review: Wells College Men's Cross Country


Throughout the summer of 2015, the Wells College Department of Athletics website will look back at the "year that was". Starting with men's lacrosse on Thursday, June 11, a comprehensive "season in review" for each of Wells varsity sports will be posted, giving fans not only a look back but also a look forward to the upcoming season of play.


In the team's eighth season as a varsity program, the Wells men's cross country team saw several standout performances en route to an appearance at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regionals in mid-November.

NOTABLES

  • TAKING ON THE REGIONALS: Wells sent three individual runners to the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Genesee Valley Park. With three individual male entrants, the Express set a program record for participation at the 8K meet, hosted by the University of Rochester.
  • A PERSONAL BEST: Sophomore Ky'aire Reed (Trenton, N.J.) recorded a personal-best time of 33:34.0, averaging a pace of 6:46/mile, at the Cross Country Only Championships on Oct. 18.
  • A STRONG FINISH: Junior Stephen Armstrong (Horseheads, N.Y.) and senior Paul Hernon (New Hartford, N.Y.) posted strong finishes for Wells at the 8K Hobart Invitational on Sept. 13. Armstrong crossed the finish line in 31:12.1 while Hernon wrapped up his race with a time of 32:37.2.
  • PAUL-ITICS: Hernon racked up the accolades during his senior season at Wells, capturing Academic All-District At-Large merits while later securing Academic All-America distinction with the men's volleyball team. He also earned the Kathryn S. Maloney Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, issued to the member of the senior class who has participated on a varsity team for a minimum of three seasons and has exemplified academic excellence throughout his or her career at Wells. His efforts with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee also earned him NEAC Male SAAC Member of the Year.
