Houghton Takes Two From Wells Softball

The Wells College softball team hosted Houghton College for a doubleheader on Friday, March 24 at the Wells Turf Field in Aurora, N.Y. Houghton won the first game 15-1 and the second game 12-3. The Express will return to action Wednesday, March 29 with home games against Keuka College. Those will also mark the first games of the year in North Eastern Athletic Conference action for the Express.

Wells is 0-4 on the season and Houghton is 2-10.

Houghton 15, Wells 1

Wells scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the first when Naomi Kubo scored on a wild pitch. Kubo and Lizzie Monnat each doubled for the Express in the opening game. Baylee Pearce took the loss in the circle in four innings of work with two strikeouts. Jessica Conover pitched the last three innings and also recorded two strikeouts.

Houghton 12, Wells 3

The Express scored three runs on nine hits in the second game of the evening. Naomi Kubo threw all seven innings, and helped her cause in the circle with a strong day at the plate. She had three hits and scored a run. Six other Express hitters recorded hits, with Baylee Pearce's hit going for extra bases as she doubled in the sixth inning.
