Wells Softball Sweeps Games From Morrisville

The Wells College softball team swept a doubleheader at Morrisville State College on Friday, April 28. Wells took the first game 6-2 and completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in the second game. Wells has won four of its last five games.

It was the second doubleheader sweep of the season for Wells, which previously took a pair from SUNY Polytechnic Institute on April 9. Wells is 9-19 overall and 8-12 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Morrisville is 6-22 overall and 6-14 in the NEAC.

The Express is back in action Saturday, April 29 at Cazenovia College for two games beginning at 1 p.m.

Wells 6, Morrisville 2

The Express scored twice in the top of the first and never trailed. Sydney Cullen had an RBI double and came in to score on an RBI single from Baylee Pearce in the first. The Express tacked on a run in the third when Pearce doubled to score Cullen. Three more runs came in for Wells in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double from Cullen.

Sydney Cullen finished with two doubles, three RBIs, and two runs scored in a 3-for-4 game at the plate. Dallia Rorick, Baylee Pearce, and Jessica Conover had two hits each.

Naomi Kubo pitched a complete-game victory. She had eight strikeouts and scattered nine hits over seven innings.

Wells 6, Morrisville 4

The Express held off a late Morrisville threat by turning a double play to end the game. Wells led by two with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. The Morrisville batter grounded to third base, where Naomi Kubo fielded the ball, tagged the runner, and threw to first for the twin-killing to end the game.

Baylee Pearce earned the win in the pitching circle with five innings of work. She allowed four runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Jessica Conover picked up a save with two shutout innings of relief work.

Wells scored in the top of the first on an RBI groundout from Sydney Cullen to bring in Kubo. In the third, Kubo hit a run-scoring double to bring in Clara DiMino, and two runs scored on the following at-bat by Dallia Rorick which yielded an infield error. Wells added single runs in the fourth and seventh.

DiMino led Wells with three hits and two runs scored. Hailey Stewart and Naomi Kubo had two hits each.
