Cazenovia Sweeps Pair Of Games From Wells Softball

The Wells College softball team played its final home games of the 2018 season and dropped a pair of contests against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponent Cazenovia on Thursday, April 26 at the Wells Turf Field. Cazenovia took the first game 4-1 and won the second game 9-0 in five innings.

The Express is 7-14 overall and 6-6 in the NEAC. Cazenovia is 16-14 overall and 8-4 in the conference. Wells continues a run of contests this week Friday at SUNY Poly, Saturday at Keuka College in non-league games, and Sunday at Penn College.

Cazenovia took a first-inning lead with a two-out, two-run double to center field. Wells answered in the bottom of the first with one run on bases-loaded ground out that brought in Naomi Kubo.

The Wildcats added single runs in the third and sixth innings.

Wells had six hits in the game and left eight runners on base.

Kubo and Lizzie Monnat each had two hits. Kubo was the starting pitcher. Over seven innings she allowed four hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Cazenovia 9, Wells 0 (5 inn.)

The Wildcats scored once in the first and added five in the second. The decisive runs came in the top of the fifth.

Naomi Kubo and Autumn Nolan hit safely for Wells. Jessica Conover pitched for the Express with three strikeouts.
