Wells Softball Swept By SUNY Poly

The Wells College softball team dropped a pair of games against SUNY Poly on Friday, April 27 at Marcy, N.Y. SUNY Poly took the first game 11-10 and went on to win the second game 6-0.

Wells is 7-16 overall and 6-8 in the NEAC. SUNY Poly is 10-12 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

The Express returns to action Saturday, April 28 at Keuka College in a non-conference doubleheader.

Naomi Kubo led off the game with a home run for the Express and was walked in her next four plate appearances.

SUNY Poly built a 4-1 lead through three innings, but Wells broke through with five runs in the top of the fourth. In the fourth, Dallia Rorick and Autumn Nolan each delivered two-run singles. SUNY Poly came back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead.

Wells scored one in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Lizzie Monnat. SUNY Poly carried an 11-7 lead into the seventh inning, but Wells rallied for three runs. Three runs scored with one out with the help of a walk, two hits and three errors. Wells trailed 11-10 with two runners on and one out, but the SUNY Poly reliever retired the last two hitters on a fly out and a strikeout.

Wells was held to three hits in the second game, but two of those were for extra bases. Naomi Kubo and Jenna Devora each doubled. Lizzie Monnat added a single.

Jessica Conover was the starting pitcher. She allowed 10 hits with one walk and one strikeout.
