Abington Wins Pair Of Games Over Wells Softball

The Wells College softball team traveled to Penn State Abington and lost both games of a North Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 6. Penn State Abington took the first game 2-1 and won the second game 10-3.

Wells will continue NEAC play on Sunday at Gallaudet University for a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.

PENN STATE ABINGTON 2, WELLS 1

Penn State Abington took the lead with a run in the bottom of the third but Wells tied it in the fourth on a solo home run by Jenna Devora. The Lions regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth and it held up in a close game.

Devora had two hits in the game and Lizzie Monnat and Ellie Schwoebel also hit safely.

Wells pitcher Naomi Kubo allowed six hits and one earned run over six innings with three walks and two strikeouts.

PENN STATE ABINGTON 10, WELLS 3

Jenna Devora doubled in Naomi Kubo in the top of the first to give Wells the lead. Penn State Abington scored four in the second to take the lead before Wells scored twice more in the top of the third. In the third, three straight singles from Kubo, Carley Ryan, and Lizzie Monnat brought in one Wells run, and Devora hit a sacrifice fly to score Ryan.

Penn State Abington scored three in the third and two in the fourth to take control and went on to the win.

Naomi Kubo had two hits for the Express and Devora had a double. Jessica Conover pitched and had two strikeouts.
