Softball Split At Gallaudet

The Wells College softball team split a doubleheader at Gallaudet University on Sunday, April 7. Wells won the first game 10-8 and Gallaudet took the second game by a 10-1 score. Wells is 2-12 overall and 1-5 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.

The Express scored in five of seven innings and Jenna Devora had four hits in a Wells victory, the team's first NEAC win of the year.

Wells scored twice in the first on a two-run single by Devora that brought in Lizzie Monnat and Carley Ryan. Gallaudet tied it in the bottom of the first but Wells broke through with four more runs in the second. Ryan had a two-run single, then Devora and Gabby Sawyer each drove in a run with consecutive ground outs. Devora added an RBI single in the third and an RBI double in the sixth.

Sawyer and Autumn McLain had RBI hits in the top of the fifth.

Jessica Conover earned the pitching win in relief. She allowed four earned runs over six innings with six strikeouts and eight hits allowed.

Devora's big day at the plate was a 4-for-5 effort with a double, a run scored, and five RBIs. Carley Ryan drove in two and scored twice. Gabby Sawyer had two RBIs. Lizzie Monnat reached base four times and scored twice.

Gallaudet 10, Wells 1 (5 inn.)

The host Bison answered with a win in the second game as Gallaudet scored four times in the third and four times in the fourth.

Wells got its lone run in the top of the first when a Lizzie Monnat double brought home Carley Ryan. Naomi Kubo had the other hit in the game for Wells. Kubo pitched three innings and took the loss with four strikeouts. Jessica Conover pitched the fourth inning and struck out one batter.
