Keuka Sweeps Doubleheader From Wells Softball

The Wells College softball team lost a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference games at Keuka College on Saturday, April 20. Keuka won both games by identical 10-2 scores. Wells continues conference play with a doubleheader Monday at home against Penn College. The first game begins at 5 p.m. at the Wells Turf Field.

Keuka 10, Wells 2 (6 innings)

Keuka led 2-0 headed to the fourth inning when Wells tied it with a pair of runs. Wells loaded the bases on a single, hit batter, and error. Jenna Devora grounded into a force out to bring home Naomi Kubo. Autumn McLain bounced back to the pitcher, who got the force at home, but a throwing error on the play allowed Lizzie Monnat to score the tying run.

The Wolves scored three in the fourth, three in the fifth, and two in the sixth to win it.

Kubo was the losing pitcher for Wells. Her single in the fourth was the only hit for the Express.

Keuka 10, Wells 2 (5 innings)

Wells jumped ahead 2-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Naomi Kubo doubled and Lizzie Monnat singled. Jenna Devora grounded out to second base to bring in Kubo and move Monnat up to second base. After a wild pitch, Autumn McLain singled to short and Monnat scored the second Wells run.

Keuka got five runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth, then finished the game with a single run in the bottom of the fifth. Jessica Conover took the loss in the circle.

Kubo and Ellie Schwoebel doubled for Wells. Monnat and McLain had singles.
