WILDCATS SINK EXPRESS

(Utica, N.Y.)─ The SUNYIT women's basketball team opened the second half against Wells College with a 20-8 run and never looked backed defeating the Express 70-48 in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening in Utica. The loss drops the Express to 2-10 (2-8 NEAC) while the Wildcats improve to 8-3 (7-2 NEAC).
 
Ashley Roser paced the Express with a game high 19 points and nine rebounds, while Rachel Mattraw chipped in with 12 points and Kristen Ryan added 10 points to round out the scoring for Wells.
 
Tamara Williams led the Wildcats with 14 points and six rebounds while teammate Lyndsey Brognano added 14 points of her own to go along with four assists and two steals.
 
Defense reigned in the first half with the Express shooting 27 percent from the floor while SUNYIT finished just 32 percent from the field as the Wildcats entered the break with a slim 28-20 lead.
 
SUNYIT turned things around in the second half, opening with 20-8 run that would extend their lead to 20 with 14:10 to play. The lead would prove to be too much to overcome for the Express as the Wildcats cruised to victory.
 
Wells returns to action on Saturday against NEAC opponent Penn. St. Berks with the game set to tip at 1 p.m. in Reading, Pa.
