CAZENOVIA KNOCKS OFF EXPRESS

(Cazenovia, N.Y.)─ Cazenovia College scored 21 points off of 33 Wells College turnovers  as the Wildcats went on to defeat the Express 65-55 in North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening in Cazenovia. The loss drops the Express to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats improve to 1-3 (1-0 NEAC).
 
Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y./Camden) led the Express with 31 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks. Roser was lights out from the free-throw line, hitting on 13 of 18 from the charity stripe.
 
Megan McDermott led the Wildcats with 19 points and eight rebounds. Samantha Allen added a near triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and six assist, while Alyssa Lubeck added 14 points.
 
The Wildcats never trailed in the game, finishing 31 percent from the field, while the Express shot 27.4 percent from the floor. Wells did hold the edge on the boards, out-rebounding the Wildcats 44-39.
 
The Wildcats held a 13 points edge (35-22) at halftime and would lead by as many as 16 in the second half. The Express would make things interesting late in the second half, going on an 8-0 run, slicing the Wildcat lead to seven (58-51) with just over three minutes to play. The comeback ended there as the Wildcats held off the late rally for the 10 point conference victory.
 
Wells returns home next to take on NEAC opponent Gallaudet University on Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. in Aurora.
