LAKERS HAND EXPRESS FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Lakers women's basketball team opened up a 12-point lead mid-way through the first half and never looked back en route to a 72-43 victory over the Wells College Express in game two of the 2011 Max Ziel Basketball Tournament Friday at Oswego State University in Oswego, N.Y. Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) paced the Express with a game high 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kappa, Hawaii) chipped in with ten points. With the loss the Express fall to 1-1 on the season, while the Lakers improve to 1-1.

Megan Stover led the Lakers with a team high 12 points, while teammate Kayla Ryan chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.

Both teams played relatively even through the first ten minute of play with the Lakers holding a slim 11-9 lead. However, a lay-up by Jenni Rossie and 3-pointer by Lauren Nunziato sparked a 10-0 run that would lead to a 30-17 halftime lead for Oswego.

The Lakers continued to pour it on in the second half, shooting an impressive 50 percent from the floor (15-30) – an offensive pace the Express would be unable to keep up with -- as the Lakers cruised to the victory and a spot in Saturday's championship game against Mt. St. Vincent College.

The Express shot 28.6 percent from floor, finished 15 of 28 from the charity stripe, and held a 42-38 advantage on the glass. The Lakers shot 41 percent from the floor but finished just 5 of 22 from behind the arc.
