SAXONS ROLL PAST EXPRESS

ALFRED, N.Y. – Despite a career high 19 points from Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kappaa, Hawaii), the Wells College women's basketball team fell 74-54 to Alfred University Saxons Wednesday night in Alfred. Eleven different players scored for the Saxons led by Grace Williamson who finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. With the loss the Express fall to 1-4 on the season while the Saxons improve to 5-1.

Along with Artaho-Aki, Allison Pine (Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y.) added 11 points and five rebounds, Kristin Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points and four rebounds, and Brittany White (Lewiston, N.Y.) added eight rebounds and three points for Wells.

The Saxons finished with four different players in double-figures. Cate Mensler added 12 points and seven rebounds, teammate Christina Jordan finished with 12 points and four assists, and Harley Cleary added 10 points to round out the highlights for Alfred.

Wells held an early 5-4 lead but an 11-0 run by the Saxons sparked an offense that would head into the halftime break with a 31-17 lead.

After scoring just 17 points in the first half, the Wells offense picked things up in the second, scoring 37 points in the half but, the halftime deficit would prove to be insurmountable as the Saxons cruised to the twenty point victory.

The Express return to action on Monday when they take on non-conference opponent Hamilton College at 6 p.m. in Aurora.
