SOARING EAGLES CRUISE PAST EXPRESS

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's basketball team fell 75-46 to the Elmira College Soaring Eagles Tuesday evening in Elmira. Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) paced the Express with 18 points and 21 rebounds. With the loss the Express fall to 1-7 on the season while the Soaring Eagles improves to 3-7.

Kristen Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 10 points in 25 minutes of play while Jordan Peterson (Hamilton, N.Y.) finished with 11 rebounds and added four points for Wells.

Jessica Zoltowski led the Soaring Eagles with a game high 35 points while teammate Alex Balara added 13 points and seven rebounds. 

The Express jumped out to an early five point lead (13-8) on the heels of seven straight points from Ryan. The two teams continued to play neck and neck throughout the half until the Soaring Eagles tied the game at 24 all with 5:15 remaining. Elmira continued their hot shooting taking a 28-26 lead on 3-pointer from Zoltowski before finishing the half with a 32-27 lead.

The Soaring Eagles started the second half with a 12-0 run and used a stifling defense to hold the Express to three points over the first nine minutes, building a 51-30 lead with 11 minutes to play. The lead would prove to be too large to overcome as Elmira cruised to the victory.

Elmira finished with 28 points off the turnover while shooting 8 of 20 from behind the arc. The Express held a slight advantage in rebounds 43-39 but shot just 28 percent from the field while Elmira finished 40.3 percent from the field.

The Express return to action on Friday when they welcome Lancaster Bible College to campus for a North Eastern Athletic Conference tilt slated for 6 p.m. in Aurora.
