EXPRESS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AGAINST NITTANY LIONS

AURORA, N.Y. – The Penn. St. Berks Nittany Lions women's basketball team held off a late rally by Wells College en route to a 67-62 North Eastern Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon in Aurora.

Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) led the Express with a game high 24 points along with 13 rebounds and five blocks. Teammate Kristin Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 11 points and five rebounds, while Jordan Peterson (Hamilton, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

The Nittany Lions were led by Ashley Kenny (Ebensburg, Pa.) who finished with 17 point and 15 rebounds. Shakiyla Stone (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 12 points and Chanell Jones (Abington, Md.) and Keisha Robinson each finished with eight points to round out the scoring for Berks.

The Nittany Lions took an early six point lead but, the Express chipped away and would pull ahead (12-10) for the first time mid-way through the half on a lay-up by Ryan and a 3-pointer from Gabrielle Palozzola (Syracuse, N.Y.). The Nittany Lions took a five point lead late into the half but, back-to-back three's from Peterson and Ryan and a last second lay-up by Roser pulled the Express to within two (31-29) at the half.

The two teams battled neck-and-neck through the first ten minutes of the second half but with the game tied at 42-42 the Nittany Lions mounted a 10-0 run and would maintain a 12 point lead with 2:07 to play.

Despite the deficit, the Express continued to play hard rallying for a 10-3 run in less than 90-seconds to trim the lead to three (65-62) with 30-seconds to play. The Nittany Lions settled down just in time, holding the Express scoreless while hitting two free throws to earn the conference victory.

The Nittany Lions shot just 29.6 percent from the field but were able to make it to the line repeatedly hitting on 23 of 35 free throws. The Express shot 44.9 percent from the floor but committed 31 turnovers which led to 26 points off the turnovers for Berks.

The Express will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Jan. 11 when they travel to take on SUNY Canton at 2 p.m. in Canton, N.Y.
