EXPRESS RALLY BACK TO DOWN SUNY CANTON

CANTON, N.Y. – Brittany White (Lewiston, N.Y.) drained two free throws with three seconds remaining as the Wells College women's basketball team battled back from a seven point deficit with 1:13 remaining to top the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 66-65 on Wednesday afternoon in Canton, N.Y. The victory snaps a nine game losing streak for the Express who improve to 2-9 overall.

Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) finished with a season high 32 points and 17 rebounds while Kristen Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) added 13 points to lead the Express.

Kaitlyn Myers paced the Kangaroos (3-10) with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Elissa St. Germain added 10 points.

Trailing 63-56 with 1:13 remaining, Roser scored eight straight points to pull the Express to within one 65-64. After a Canton turnover and a Wells timeout, the Express controlled the ball with 15-seconds remaining and a chance to tie or take the lead.

On the ensuing play, Roser missed the initial jumper but White battled for the offensive rebound, drawing a foul on the put back and earning a trip the line with three seconds remaining. White hit both shots to take the 66-65 lead, leaving Canton with a chance for a desperation three that would never find the net as Wells completed the comeback victory.

The Express looked to be in control late in the first half leading by nine (27-18) but the Kangaroos would battle back to within one (31-30) by the close of the first half.

Despite the late rush by Canton in the first, the Express again extended their lead in the second, this time to 12 points (43-31). The Kanagaroos continued to push and a 3-pointer by Myers sparked Canton to an 11-0 run that would see Wells' lead dwindle to one (44-43) with 10:45 to play.

The two teams traded shots over the next six minutes until five straight free throws by Canton extended the Kangaroos lead to seven (63-56).

Wells finished 36.2 percent from floor and were impressive from the line finishing 14-19. The Kangaroos finished 41.8 percent from the field and held the advantage on the glass 47-44.

Roser's 32 points marks the fifth time the sophomore has topped 30 points in her career and is just one shy of her career high of 33 points.

The Express will continue NEAC conference play this weekend when they travel to Penn. St. Harrisburg to take on the Nittany Lions at 2 p.m. in Harrisburg, Pa.
