WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO SECOND STRAIGHT VICTORY

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds and Jordan Peterson (Hamilton, N.Y.) added 20 points to lead the Wells College women's basketball team to a 70-58 victory over the Morrisville State Mustangs in NEAC action Wednesday evening in Morrisville. With the victory the Express have now won two straight and improve to 5-11 (3-5 NEAC), while the Mustangs fall to 5-11 (4-5 NEAC).

Tierra Hollins-Hill led the Mustangs with 23 points, while Nijah Townsend chipped with 16 points and nine rebounds to round out the highlights for Morrisville.

The two teams played neck-and-neck through the first ten minutes of play until five straight points by Roser pulled the Express ahead 19-14. The Mustangs battled back to within two (25-23) but, an 8-2 run by the Express, capped by a late 3-pointer by Kristen Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.), gave wells a 33-25 lead at the break.

The Express continued to roll in the second half leading by as many as 16 points with 11:29 to play. The Mustangs would climb back to within nine on two made free-throws from Townsend, but a quick 6-0 run pushed the Express lead back to 15 points with six minutes to play, a deficit too large for Morrisville to overcome.

Wells shot 44.5 percent from the floor and finished 17-24 from the foul line, while holding a 46-33 advantage on the glass. The Express also set a small milestone with the victory, eclipsing the programs inaugural season win total of four from a year ago.

The Express will look to make a three straight this weekend when they take on NEAC opponent SUNY Cobleskill at 3 p.m. in Cobleskill, N.Y.
