EXPRESS FALL TO KEUKA IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Despite 20 points and 19 rebounds from Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) the Wells College women's basketball team was unable to overcome a 16 point first half deficit as the Keuka College Storm rolled to a 60-45 victory in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon in Keuka Park, N.Y. With the loss the Express finish the season at 8-17 (6-11 NEAC) while the Storm improve to 16-5 (14-3 NEAC).

Jessilyn Aki (Kappaa, Hawaii) added nine points and four assists and Jordan Peterson (Hamilton, N.Y.) chipped in with six points and nine rebounds to round out the top scorers for Wells.

Danielle Gravel scored 17 points to lead the Storm while Mariah Mouzon added six points and 10 rebounds to round out the scoring for Keuka.

Four straight points by Gravel helped pushed the Storm to a 17-6 lead mid-way through the first half. Keuka continued to roll as Mouzon and Grave combined for eight points to extend the Storm lead to 15 (25-10) before closing the half with a 31-15 lead.

Wells opened the second half with an 8-0 run on a combined eight points from Peterson and Roser to cut the lead to 31-23. However, Gravel drilled a three to stop the run and four straight free-throws and another three from Taylor Szwec pushed the Storm lead back to 16 (41-25) with 13 minutes to play and never looked back en route to the victory in the final regular season game of the season.

The Express shot 28.8 percent from the floor and just 3-14 from long range. Wells did hold the advantage on the glass 47-44.

The Storm did not fare much better from the floor finishing 36.8 percent from the field including 4-15 from behind the arc.

The Express did not qualify for the conference tournament but, in just their second year as a varsity program at the NCAA Division III level, the Express were able to double their win total from a year ago while adding two wins to their conference total. Keuka will await seeding for the NEAC Championship Tournament set to be released tomorrow evening.
