Women’s Basketball Moves Past Mustangs, 59-45

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) recorded 28 points and 20 rebounds as the Wells College women's basketball team posted a 59-45 victory over the Mustangs of Morrisville State College Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Express improve to 12-10 overall and to 11-3 within North Eastern Athletic Conference competition. The Mustangs fall to 1-21 overall and to 1-13 within league play.

Roser recorded her 56th career double-double in her 66th career game, posting 28 points on the year, her second-highest total on the season. She was 9-for-24 from the field and put home 10 of her 12 free throw attempts. Freshman Lindsay Achzet (Johnstown, N.Y.) scored nine points, ranking second on the team while both Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapaa, Hawaii) and Kristen Ryan (Syracuse, N.Y.) chipped in seven points apiece.

The Express did not relinquish the lead from the tip, but they did allow the Mustangs to mount a comeback early in the second half. With an eight point lead with 18:27 remaining in the second stanza following a successful Roser layup, Morrisville scored eight straight points to knot the game at 31 apiece with 14:04 remaining in regulation time. However, sparked by an Achzet layup, Wells posted the game's next nine points to help rebuild their lead.

In total, the Express posted 34 points in the paint as opposed to the Mustangs' 28. Wells did allow 16 points to the hosts off of turnovers while allowing 17 second chance points to the Mustangs. Morrisville was led by Nijee Scott, who posted 19 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Additionally, Scott posted a team-leading five free throws, four assists and six steals. Kamilla Ferguson notched nine points and four rebounds.
