Fighting Tigers Knock Off Women’s Basketball, 61-54

COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The Express allowed the Fighting Tigers to secure 34 offensive rebounds as the Wells College women's basketball team dropped a 61-54 contest to SUNY Cobleskill Saturday afternoon at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the loss, the Express fall to 12-11 overall on the year and to 11-4 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Fighting Tigers collect only their seventh overall victory of the year, earning their sixth league victory.

Junior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) recorded 21 points and 18 rebounds, securing her 57th career double-double in her 67th career game. Freshmen Holli Erkson (Cooperstown, N.Y.) and Lindsay Achzet (Johnstown, N.Y.) each posted eight points, tying for second place on the squad. Achzet's 12 rebounds ranked second on the team. Sophomore Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapaa, Hawaii) led the team with four assists to her credit.

The Express never possessed the lead, or tied the score, at any point in the contest. In total, Wells dominated the Fighting Tigers in the paint by a 20-to-8 margin, but allowed 14 points off of turnovers and granting Cobleskill 23 second chance points by dominating the offensive glass, 34-to-19.

A Tracee Schiebel free throw with 4:31 remaining in the first half improved the Fighting Tigers lead to 26-12, the largest margin of the afternoon. The Express, however, rattled off the game's next six points to reduce the lead to eight. Eventually, the Express battled back and only trailed by five points entering the half.

Schiebel and Samantha Davis tied for the team lead in points, posting 13 apiece. Schiebel reached a double-double after scooping up 13 rebounds to lead the way defensively. Heidi Anderson poured home 12 total points while Alexis Hauser notched 11 points for the home team.

The Express return to action Sunday, Feb. 10 as they face-off against the Wildcats of SUNYIT in a 12:00 p.m. road tilt.
