Roser Selected As NEAC Player of the Year

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Junior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's basketball team has been selected as the 2012-13 North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year, the conference office announced late Monday afternoon.

Alongside Player of the Year recognition, Roser also picks up placement on the First Team All-Conference squad for the third-straight season. Roser joins Matthew Sleezer (Gloversville, N.Y.) of the men's swimming team as well as Emily Middlebrook (Newark, N.Y.) of the women's cross country team to be selected as the conference's top performer in 2012-13.

This season, Roser led the Wells College women's basketball team to the playoffs in only their third year of existence. Entering Tuesday evening's NEAC Play-in game against SUNYIT, Roser has averaged 20.3 points per game in 24 games played while also averaging a career-high mark of 16.6 rebounds per game. Roser also leads the conference in both categories, edging Lyndsey Brognano of Keuka College by .1 points per game and leading Megan McDermott of Cazenovia College by six whole rebounds per game, on average.

According to the NCAA Statistical Report released on Feb. 14, Roser ranks first across all NCAA Division III women's basketball players with 16.8 rebounds per game and first in double-doubles with 21. Her 2.87 blocked shots per game place her 12th nationally while her 20.4 points per game ranked her 15th nationally across all qualifying players.

During the regular season, Roser also racked up a double-double across 22 of her 24 games played and boasts 59 career double-doubles in 69 total games played. She also recorded her first career triple-double on Wednesday, Jan. 30 against Cazenovia, posting 20 rebounds, 15 total points and 10 blocks. She also enters the playoffs riding a 12 game double-double streak.

On Nov. 28, 2012, Roser secured her 1,000th career point against the Saxons of Alfred University. Additionally, Roser secured her 1,000th career rebound on Feb. 10 of this year while also setting the program's single-game scoring mark of 39 total points. Roser currently holds the single-game program records in points scored (39), field goals made (13, 2/10/13 at SUNYIT), field goals attempted (2x, 29, vs. Morrisville St., 11/23/10; at Cazenovia, 12/1/10), free throws made (17, vs. Cazenovia, 1/22/11), free throws attempted (19, vs. Cazenovia, 1/22/11), free throw percentage (1.000, 3x, most recently 13-13, at SUNYIT, 2/10/13), most rebounds (31, vs. Penn St.-Berks, 2/13/11), and most blocked shots (10, at Cazenovia, 1/30/13).

For her career, Roser ranks at the top of the program record book in many statistical categories, including points (1,407), scoring average (20.4), field goals made (485), field goals attempted (1,118), free throws made (422), free throws attempted (579), rebounds (1,029), rebounding average (14.9), assists (167), blocked shots (198), blocked shots average (2.8), steals (134), games started (63) and minutes played (2,356).

In single-season rankings, Roser has led the team in numerous categories including points (547, 2010-11), scoring average (21.9, 2010-11), field goals made (191, 2010-11), field goals attempted (459, 2010-11), free throws made (162, 2010-11), free throws attempted (225, 2010-11), rebounds (299, 2012-13), rebounding average (16.6, 2012-13), blocked shots (84, 2010-11), blocked shots average (3.4, 2011-12), steals average (2.5, 2011-12), minutes played (887, 2010-11) and minutes average (35.5, 2010-11).
