Roser Claims NCAA Division III Rebounds Per Game Title

AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's basketball team exits the 2012-13 season as the NCAA Division III national statistics leader in rebounds per game. With the Tigers of DePauw University claiming the 2012-13 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship on Mar. 16, Roser remained atop the statistical leaderboard through the conclusion of the women's basketball season.

With 16.7 rebounds per game across a 26 game schedule, Roser placed first amongst all qualifying NCAA Division III women's basketball players nationwide. She finished 1.5 rebounds per game against of Tytravia Riley of Bard College who completed her 25 game season with 15.2 rebounds per game. Roser also finished the year ranking second with 24 double-doubles, third in triple-doubles with one, 10th in points per game with 21.2 and 14th with an average of 2.77 blocked shots per game.

Since national historic records were digitized by the NCAA prior to the 1999-00 athletic season, Roser is only the fourth player in Wells College history to conclude their athletic season with top-10 national rankings in two or more categories. In addition, Roser joins women's lacrosse alum Emily Lotkowictz '10 as one of only two players in college history to be listed amongst the top-10 in three or more categories in separate seasons across their athletic careers.

Roser joins Juan Paulino of the men's basketball team as one of only two Wells players to claim a statistical title. Following the conclusion of the 2009-10 men's basketball season, Paulino led all NCAA Division III men's basketball players with 16.5 rebounds per game while also posting the nation's best field goal percentage (.705).

Including Roser, Lotkowictz and Paulino, only six student-athletes in Wells history have earned placement into the national top-10 statistical rankings. Beth Cereo '10, a member of the field hockey program, ranked fourth in saves per game (13.27) in 2006 while finishing 10th in the nation in the same category (11.28) in 2007.

Lotkowictz was nationally ranked in five different categories during her women's lacrosse career. In 2009, she ranked third in goals per game (5.9) and fifth in draw controls per game (5.2). During her senior season, she finished second in the nation with 7.33 points per game, sixth in total points (110) and ninth in both goals per game (4.4) and assists per game (2.93.) Mike Birklin 10' ranked sixth in the nation in saves per game (9.4) as a member of the men's soccer team in 2006 while Tracy Chappell '04 of the softball program ranked third nationally in triples per game (.300) in 2002.

In addition to her statistical honors from the NCAA, Roser has been feted by several different organizations for her performance across the prior women's basketball season. Women's DIII News listed Roser as an Honorable Mention after drawing D3Hoops.com 2013 Women's All-East Region Second Team for her accomplishments across the season prior.

En route to earning 2012-13 North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year merits, Roser led the Wells College women's basketball team to the playoffs in only their third year of existence. Roser secured her 1,000th career point against the Saxons of Alfred University on Nov. 28, 2012 while scoring her 1,000th career rebound on Feb. 10 of this year. She was also able to set the program's single-game scoring mark of 39 total points against the Wildcats of SUNY Institute of Technology.

Roser racked up a double-double across 24 of her 26 games played and boasts 61 career double-doubles in 71 total games played across her three-year playing career. She has recorded at least 10 points in her past 34 games and has failed to reach double-digit point totals in only two of her 71 career games played. She has also recorded double-digit rebound totals in all but only eight career games.

Roser currently holds the single-game program records in points scored (39), field goals made (13, 2/10/13 at SUNYIT), field goals attempted (2x, 29, vs. Morrisville St., 11/23/10; at Cazenovia, 12/1/10), free throws made (17, vs. Cazenovia, 1/22/11), free throws attempted (19, vs. Cazenovia, 1/22/11), free throw percentage (1.000, 3x, most recently 13-13, at SUNYIT, 2/10/13), most rebounds (31, vs. Penn St.-Berks, 2/13/11), and most blocked shots (10, at Cazenovia, 1/30/13).

For her career, Roser ranks at the top of the program record book in many statistical categories, including points (1,471), scoring average (20.7), field goals made (508), field goals attempted (1,157), free throws made (439), free throws attempted (599), rebounds (1,063), rebounding average (15.0), assists (168), blocked shots (199), blocked shots average (2.8), steals (136), games started (65) and minutes played (2,431).

In single-season rankings, Roser has led the team in numerous categories including points (551, 2012-13), scoring average (21.9, 2010-11), field goals made (199, 2012-13), field goals attempted (459, 2010-11), free throws made (162, 2010-11), free throws attempted (225, 2010-11), rebounds (433, 2012-13), rebounding average (16.7, 2012-13), blocked shots (84, 2010-11), blocked shots average (3.4, 2011-12), steals average (2.5, 2011-12) and minutes played average (35.5, 2010-11).

Roser, a two sport athlete for the Express, also served as the Wells College women's soccer team's starting goalkeeper this past season. In her rookie season, Roser posted a 7-12 overall record alongside a 2.81 goals-against average in 1,728 minutes of action. She accumulated three shutouts alongside her first collegiate point, an assist. She currently ranks first all-time in program history with 10.05 saves per game and fifth all-time with 191 total saves.

Currently, Roser holds the single-season record for victories in a season (7) and stands second all-time in shutouts in a season (3). She ranks third all-time with seven victories and was ranked second within the conference with 191 saves. Nationally, Roser finished her season ranked seventh in total saves.
