Roser Nets 21st Straight Double-Double In Loss To Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Senior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) recorded her 21st double-double dating back to last season as the Wells College women's basketball team posted a 77-59 loss to the Storm of Keuka College on Wednesday. With the loss, Wells dips to 3-4 overall on the year while evening their North Eastern Athletic Conference mark at 1-1. The Storm boost their league record to 2-0 alongside a 2-3 mark overall on the year.

Roser's 28 total points and 17 rebounds are the second-highest totals she has scored in a game this season. Junior Kaitlynne Knapp (Port Byron, N.Y.) ranked second with 12 total points, burying 8-of-10 shots from the charity stripe while notching a team-leading two takeaways.

Wells, who trailed for the majority of the first half, made things interesting with 9:36 remaining in the first half after a Cassie Smythe (Eden, N.Y.) three-point basket. Smythe, who was later fouled, cut the Keuka lead to two points (16-14) after burying both foul shots. The Express, however, allowed the hosts back into the game following a Brittany Hadley three-point basket with 1:10 left in the stanza to create a 10 point cushion.

The Express finished strong, however, using a Knapp jumper that preceded a Roser layup with two seconds left. This 4-0 run gave Wells the momentum entering the locker room at halftime despite trailing by a 29-23 margin to the host Storm.

Keuka led by as much as 24 points in the second half but the Express surged back to cut the deficit to six points with 3:18 remaining in regulation time. Following a Jessica Bandrowski layup with 5:03 remaining, the Express cut into their then-15 point deficit (65-50) using a seven point run capped off by a foul shot by Jessilyn Artaho-Aki (Kapa'a, Hawaii). Roser was then sent to the line, burying two free throws to bring the score to 67-59.

The Storm completed the game on a 10 point run, not allowing any additional Wells scores throughout the remaining minutes of the tilt.

Keuka was powered by Bandrowski's 26 total points, shooting 11-for-21 from the floor. She also racked up a team-best six assists alongside four steals. Casey Chamberlain, Taylor Szwec and Katie Stuart each posted double-digit point totals as well.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Dec. 7, hosting SUNY Cobleskill at 3:00 p.m.
