Roser Selected As Co-Student-Athlete of the Week
AURORA, N.Y. – Senior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's basketball team earned North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete honors on Monday. Roser, who split the award with Lindsay Stergio of Gallaudet University, has now won the weekly conference award for the 15th time in her four-year career.
Roser and the Express posted two conference road victories this past week. On Tuesday, the Express notched a 72-64 win against the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill while on Saturday, Wells recorded a decisive 77-49 victory over the Phoenix of Wilson College. The Express have now won five-straight contests dating back to Saturday, Jan. 25, a program record streak. Dating back to Saturday, Jan. 11, Wells has won 8-of-10 games.
Against the Fighting Tigers on Tuesday, Roser racked up her 76th career double-double for Wells, scoring 21 points and adding 14 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Her four blocks also led the team. In 90 career games to that point, Roser had struck for a whopping 57 double-doubles against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents.
Versus Wilson on Saturday, Roser scored 17 points en route to becoming the all-time leader in career scoring amongst NEAC women's basketball players. She eclipsed the previous career scoring record set by Colleen Clarke of Cazenovia College. Clarke, a four-year member of the Wildcats, scored 1,910 points in 104 career games from 2006 to 2010. Entering this Friday's game against Penn St.-Berks, Roser boasts 1,920 career points and has five more regular season contests to breach the 2,000 point plateau.
A four-year captain who made her Wells debut in 2010 during the first year of modern era basketball in Aurora, Roser was selected as the 2012-13 NEAC Player of the Year following a stellar junior campaign where she led the nation in rebounds per game (16.7). She remains one of only two players (Juan Paulino, men's basketball) in Wells College history to have earned a national statistical championship.
Prior to this week's slate of games, Roser ranked first across all active NCAA Division III women's basketball players in career point scoring (1,903), scoring average (21.1), total rebounds (1,300), field goals made (667) and free throw attempts (758). She ranked second in field goal attempts (1,510) and free throws made (550). Nationally, Roser placed third in rebounding average (14.4) and is fifth in the nation in career blocked shots (238).
The Express will look for their sixth-straight victory this Friday, Feb. 14 as they face-off against the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Berks on the road at 8:00 p.m.
