Roser Earns 16th NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week Award
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – Senior Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) of the Wells College women's basketball team has earned North Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete honors for the 16th time in her four year career, the conference office announced on Monday. Roser and the Express posted a 2-1 week and will enter the NEAC postseason for the second time in their four year team history.
Versus Morrisville State on Wednesday, Roser became only the 13th player in NCAA Division III history to record 2,000 career points alongside 1,000 career rebounds en route to a 55-46 victory over the Mustangs. She finished with 32 points, the exact amount she needed to reach the 2,000 point threshold entering the game. Roser stands as only the third player in Division III history to have reached 2,000 career points and 1,350 rebounds in a career.
On Saturday against Keuka, Roser picked up her 80th career double-double by totaling 29 points alongside 16 rebounds for the Express as they clinched the NEAC North Division title with a win over the Storm. Additionally, her double-double marked her 61st career double-double against a league opponent. She stands only three double-doubles shy of tying the all-time NCAA Division III record set by Kathryn Stockbower of Swarthmore College.
Roser's 15 rebounds in only 24 minutes played against the Wildcats from the SUNY Institute of Technology on Sunday led the team in that category. She also tied for the team lead with three assists before being removed from the contest to rest for the postseason run.
A four-year captain who made her Wells debut in 2010 during the first year of modern era basketball in Aurora, Roser was selected as the 2012-13 NEAC Player of the Year following a stellar junior campaign where she led the nation in rebounds per game (16.7). She remains one of only two players (Juan Paulino, men's basketball) in Wells College history to have earned a national statistical championship.
Entering the prior weekend of games, Roser ranked first across all active NCAA Division III women's basketball players in career point scoring (2,000), scoring average (21.3), total rebounds (1,356), field goals made (705) and free throw attempts (793). She ranked second in field goal attempts (1,580) and free throws made (571). Nationally, Roser placed third in rebounding average (14.4) and is fifth in the nation in career blocked shots (245).
The Express return to action this Saturday, Mar. 1 as they open the NEAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament with an 8:00 p.m. contest against the winner of Tuesday evening's game between Gallaudet University and the College of Saint Elizabeth. The NEAC tournament will be held on the campus of Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pa.
