Wells To Honor NEAC Champion Women's Basketball Team

AURORA, N.Y. – The 2014 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship women's basketball team from Wells College will be honored and recognized in a pre-game ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 25. The Express will follow the ceremony with their regularly-scheduled league contest against Penn St.-Berks at high noon.

In only their fourth season as a modern day varsity program at Wells, the women's basketball team capped off a historic 2013-14 season with a trip to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament in early March. To earn the right to compete at the national level, Wells dispatched both Gallaudet and Lancaster Bible in the NEAC Tournament to claim their first-ever conference championship.

Led by Head Coach Mike O'Brien, the women's basketball team was only the second team in College history to appear at the national tournament. The Express concluded the season ranked sixth nationally in three-point field goal defense (.234 per game), 11th in offensive rebounds per game (19.0) and 14th in blocked shots per game (5.6) en route to their first-ever NEAC North Division Championship to conclude the regular season.
