Women's Basketball Downs Keuka, 70-47

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Junior Ashida Cooper (Bensalem, Pa.) scored a team-leading 20 points as the Wells College women's basketball team stormed past the Wolfpack from Keuka College by a 70-47 score on Wednesday. Wells moves to 13-8 overall on the year and to 9-5 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Keuka falls to 5-14 and to 4-9 within the league.

Cooper scored 20 points, shooting 8-for-19 from the floor, and collected six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Senior Holli Erkson (Cooperstown, N.Y.) recorded 13 points, eight rebounds and a team-leading four steals – she has eclipsed 400 rebounds across her four-year career, only one game removed from scoring her 1,000th career point.

Freshmen Carley Ryan (Middleburgh, N.Y.) and Shelby Medovich (Harpursville, N.Y.) scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Freshman Vielka Barber (Holly Springs, N.Y.) tallied eight points and six rebounds in only 21 minutes while senior Lindsay Achzet (Johnstown, N.Y.) played in her 99th career contest in a Wells uniform, tying Ashley Roser '14 for the program record.

With the score tied at seven with 3:28 left in the first quarter, a Ryan three-point basket led to a 10-0 scoring run through the midway point of the second stanza. In total, Wells finished the first half of play on an 11-5 scoring run to earn a 30-16 lead at the break.

The Express maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half of play, shooting an impressive 50% from the floor in the fourth quarter, making 8-of-16 shots from the floor, while converting 6-of-7 foul shots to keep Keuka from establishing a comeback.

Abby Hess led Keuka with 12 points off the bench, making all six shots from the floor. Lauren Anten collected eight rebounds to lead the Wolfpack, who committed 32 turnovers in 40 minutes in the game.

Wells returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 13, taking on the Wildcats from Penn College at 3 p.m. on the road.
