Bryn Athyn Holds On For Win Over Wells Women's Basketball

The Wells College women's basketball team used a strong second half to take a late lead, but host Bryn Athyn College pulled out a 53-47 victory over the Express on Sunday, Jan. 22 in Bryn Athyn, Pa. Wells is 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Bryn Athyn is 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the NEAC.

Wells trailed by seven points in the fourth quarter, but answered with an eight-point run to take its first lead of the game. Shelby Medovich made a 3-pointer, Ashida Cooper scored in the paint, and Carley Ryan made a 3-pointer to give Wells a 44-43 lead with 3:17 left in the quarter.

Bryn Athyn answered with a 3-pointer and two free throws and went ahead 48-44 with two minutes left. Neither team managed much offense in the closing minutes and the Lions went on to a six-point win.

Three players scored in double-figures for Wells as Shelby Medovich had 16 points, Ashida Cooper scored 13 points, and Carley Ryan added 10.

Medovich, Cooper, and Kamarie Maturine each had nine rebounds. Wells forced 17 Bryn Athyn turnovers, and Medovich had four steals.

The Express trailed by nine points at halftime, but outscored Bryn Athyn 15-9 in the third quarter to get back into the contest.

Wells returns to action Thursday, Jan. 26 with its final non-league contest of the regular season at Elmira College at 7 p.m. Next weekend, Wells hosts NEAC opponents Penn State-Berks on Saturday. Jan. 28 and Lancaster Bible College on Sunday, Jan. 29.
