Women's Basketball Wraps Non-Conference Season At Elmira

The Wells College women's basketball team went on the road and fell by a 69-50 score at Elmira College on Thursday, Jan. 26 at Elmira's Murray Athletic Center. Ashida Cooper scored 28 points for the Express.

Wells led 13-8 after the first quarter, but Elmira rallied back to take a 26-22 lead at halftime. The Express had its best-scoring quarter of the game in the third with 20 points and Wells trailed just 43-42 headed to the fourth quarter. Elmira pulled away over the last 10 minutes and came away with the win.

Cooper's 28-point night came on 14 made baskets. She had seven steals. Shelby Medovich added eight points. Kamarie Maturine led Wells with 14 rebounds and blocked seven shots.

Wells blocked 11 shots as a team, which was one short of the team single-game record for blocked shots. Wells had 12 blocks at Cazenovia on Jan. 30, 2013

It was the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Express. Wells has 10 games remaining, all against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents. That run starts with a five-game homestand and begins this weekend. Wells hosts Penn State-Berks on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Lancaster Bible on Sunday at 1 p.m.
