Morrisville Defeats Wells Women's Basketball

The Wells College women's basketball team went on the road and dropped a 67-54 game against Morrisville State College on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Wells is 9-12 overall and 8-8 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Morrisville improved to 16-7 overall and 11-5 in the conference.

The Express led 11-10 after the first quarter and 29-26 at halftime. Ashida Cooper had 14 first-half points for the Express and Carley Ryan added 11 points in the first half.

Wells trailed 43-41 headed into the fourth quarter, but Morrisville started the fourth with a 9-2 run to extend the lead to nine points with four minutes remaining. The lead grew to 10 points for the Mustangs, but a 3-pointer from Ashida Cooper and a free throw by Carley Ryan brought Wells to a six-point deficit at 56-50, but that was as close as the Express came down the stretch.

Cooper finished the game with 28 points, Ryan had 12 points, and Kamarie Maturine had 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Wells wraps up regular-season play with home games this weekend. On Friday at 5 p.m., Wells hosts the College of Saint Elizabeth. Saturday at 1 p.m. Wells will play against Penn College of Technology.
