Ashida Cooper Earns All-NEAC First Team Honor

Wells College women's basketball senior guard Ashida Cooper earned First Team recognition as the North Eastern Athletic Conference announced its postseason awards and honors for the 2016-17 season. It is the second year in a row that Cooper earned All-NEAC First Team honors.

Cooper leads the nation in scoring with a 25.5 points per game average. She scored in double figures in all 22 games that she appeared in, including a school-record 40-point performance Nov. 30 at Cazenovia. Cooper scored 30 points or more seven times. She ranked in the top-15 in the conference in rebounds per game, assists per game, and steals per game.

"Ashida's recognition as a First Team player in the NEAC is well-deserved. She proved herself to be an effective scorer against all types of defenses and she also made her teammates better," Wells head coach Tara Ruckh said.

On Feb. 17 against St. Elizabeth, Cooper surpassed the 1,000-career-points milestone. She is the third player in Wells history to reach that mark. Cooper finished her career with 1,050 points and ranks third all-time in scoring for the Express despite playing just two seasons.

Wells finished the season with an 11-12 overall record and 10-8 record in the NEAC. It is the fourth time in the last five years that the Express had a winning record in conference games.
