Strong Second Half Leads Women's Basketball To Win

The Wells College women's basketball team earned its first victory of the season with a 66-58 win over D'Youville College on Monday, Nov. 20 at College Center Gym in Buffalo, N.Y. Wells outscored D'Youville 35-27 over the second half and pulled away for the victory.

Two career-best scoring performances led Wells at the offensive end of the floor. Junior forward Carley Ryan scored a career-high 24 points and senior forward Kamarie Maturine added a career-best 22 points.

D'Youville built a nine-point lead in the second quarter, but Wells rallied with a 14-5 run before the half to tie the score at halftime.

Wells led by three after the third quarter as Ryan scored eight points in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, a 3-pointer from D'Youville brought the Spartans to within two at 52-50, but Wells took control with a 10-3 run to build a nine-point advantage in the final minute of the game.

Ryan was 4-for-7 from behind the 3-point line, and Maturine was 9-for-13 from the field and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.

The Express had 17 assists on 23 made field goals, as seven different players recorded at least one assist.

Maturine led Wells with 11 rebounds.

Wells is 1-2 overall and D'Youville is 0-4. The Express returns to action Monday, Nov. 27 with a 5 p.m. home game against Alfred State.
