Women's Basketball Suffers First NEAC Defeat

The Wells College women's basketball team played its second North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the year and came out on the short side of a 51-34 score against visiting Keuka College on Thursday, Dec. 7 at the Schwartz Athletic Center in Aurora, N.Y.

Keuka contined its strong start to the season and improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the NEAC. Wells is 2-6 on the year with a 1-1 NEAC record.

The Wolves led 10-9 after the first quarter in which there were five lead changes. Keuka pulled away in the second and third quarters by outscoring Wells 27-14 in the middle 20 minutes. The Storm went on to a double-digit victory.

Keuka was 22-for-51 from the floor for a 43.1 percent shooting percentage. Wells made just 14 of 48 field goal attempts, a 29.2 percentage. Defensive pressure throughout the game by both teams contributed to a combined 54 turnovers, 27 by each team.

Kamarie Maturine scored 10 points to lead the Express and added 11 rebounds. Carley Ryan had seven points. Yanna Ososkalo had five steals and Shelby Medovich had four steals.

The last two opponents for the Express have a combined record of 12-1 on the year.

Wells is back in action Saturday, Dec. 9 at NEAC opponent Morrisville State College at 3 p.m.
