Women's Basketball Picks Up Second Straight Win

The Wells College women's basketball won its second-straight game with a 64-53 victory at Penn State Abington on Sunday, Jan. 14.

Abington entered the game as the second-place team in the North Eastern Athletic Conference South Division. Wells improved to 4-10 overall and 3-3 in the NEAC. Abington is 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

The Wells defense held Penn State Abington to just 32 percent shooting from the field and the Express claimed a 48-36 advantage in rebounds.

Abington led 15-14 late in the first quarter. Yanna Ososkalo made a layup to put Wells ahead and Shelby Medovich made a 3-pointer to extend Wells' lead to 19-15 after the first quarter. Wells led for the rest of the game.

Carley Ryan was the leading scorer in the game with 24 points. Medovich added 19 points and Ososkalo scored 13 for the Express. Wells was 12-for-16 at the free-throw line.

Kamarie Maturine led Wells with 13 rebounds. Ososkalo had three steals.

Sunday's victory marked the second day in a row that Wells defeated one of the top-three teams in the NEAC South Division, following Saturday's win at Gallaudet University.

Wells continues NEAC play with a North Division matchup Wednesday, Jan. 17 at SUNY Polytechnic institute at 7 p.m.
