Women's Basketball Win Streak Snapped At SUNY Poly

First-place SUNY Poly outlasted the Wells College women's basketball team in a 70-54 victory for the Wildcats on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at SUNY Poly's Campus Center Gymnasium.

SUNY Poly remained undefeated in North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 6-0 conference record and the Wildcats are 10-5 overall. Wells saw a two-game winning streak snapped, and the Express is 4-11 overall and 3-4 in the NEAC.

Wells started slowly in the first quarter and didn't record its first basket until six minutes had expired. A 3-pointer from Carley Ryan broke the scoreless streak for the Express and stopped a 12-point run for SUNY Poly.

The Express trailed 16-9 after the first quarter and 36-26 at halftime.

Ryan finished as the leading scorer for Wells with 22 points and Shelby Medovich added 12 points. Medovich, Kamarie Maturine, and Miranda Mingen had eight rebounds each. The Express blocked eight shots in the game, with three each from Maturine and Ryan.

Four players scored in double figures for SUNY Poly and the Wildcats forced 27 Wells turnovers.

The Express is back in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. against SUNY Cobleskill.
