Women's Basketball Comeback Effort Comes Up Short

The Wells College women's basketball made a spirited rally in the third quarter but came out on the losing side of a 65-47 score against Utica College on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Schwartz Athletic Center in Aurora, N.Y.

Wells took a 4-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game, but Utica followed with an 18-2 run to close the opening quarter and the Pioneers led 20-6. The lead grew to 21 points at halftime.

The Express played its best basketball of the season in the third quarter. Wells outscored Utica 21-10 in the quarter. Wells made eight baskets in that run, shot 50 percent from the floor, and had four assists and just one turnover. The defense held Utica to 4-for-15 shooting in the third and Wells had a 12-7 advantage in rebounds.

Utica closed out the game with a 15-7 edge in the fourth quarter.

Shelby Medovich led Wells with 19 points and was 8-for-14 from the field. Diamonne Harris had nine points and Carley Ryan had seven. Ryan and Medovich had eight rebounds each, and Ryan led the Express with six assists.

Wells is 0-3 on the season and Utica is 2-0. The Express is back in action Sunday, Nov. 18 at Medaille College for a 1 p.m. game.
