Elmira Holds Off Women's Basketball Rally

The Wells College women's basketball team went to Elmira College and the host Soaring Eagles came away with a 58-45 victory on Friday, Nov. 30 at Elmira's Speidel Gymnasium.

Wells got off to a good start and scored the first five points of the game, while holding Elmira scoreless for the first five minutes of play. Elmira answered with a 21-1 run that stretched into the second quarter. Elmira led 33-16 at halftime.

Wells made a run in the second half and reduced the deficit to single digits. Carley Ryan had two layups and a 3-pointer to start the third quarter followed by a basket from Diamonne Harris and Wells trailed 33-25. The Elmira lead stood at 11 points headed to the fourth. Wells pulled to within nine on two occasions in the fourth quarter but Elmira held off the rallies for a 13-point victory.

Carley Ryan led Wells with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Diamonne Harris scored 12, and Shelby Medovich added 10 for the Express.

Wells returns to action Saturday, Dec. 1 with a 1 p.m. home game against SUNY Cobleskill.
